What is a medical oncologist?

The role of a medical oncologist is to partner with you to achieve an accurate diagnosis, help you understand your pet’s cancer and its expected behavior, perform staging tests to determine how far the disease has progressed, and recommend a treatment plan that reflects your pet’s overall health, your goals, and your pet’s quality of life.

Conditions we treat:

  • Lymphoma
  • Mast cell tumors
  • Osteosarcoma
  • Hemangiosarcoma
  • Soft tissue sarcomas
  • Histiocytic diseases
  • Multiple myeloma
  • Transitional cell carcinoma
  • Melanoma
  • Neuroendocrine tumors
  • And much more!

Oncology Services

We provide a variety of oncology services to meet each pet’s unique needs.

What to Expect

Most pets are referred to us after your family veterinarian has diagnosed, or has a strong concern for, cancer.
01
At your appointment, we’ll review your pet’s medical records, talk through their history with you, and perform a thorough physical examination.
02
We often recommend additional testing to confirm the diagnosis, understand how far the cancer has progressed, and help guide treatment decisions. Many of these tests can be done the same day as your initial visit.
03
Using all of this information, we’ll discuss treatment options and create a plan that fits your pet’s needs, your goals, and your pet’s quality of life. If appropriate, chemotherapy may begin at the time of the consultation.
04
We’ll keep your family veterinarian updated every step of the way so your pet’s care stays well coordinated.
